Firstly I would make the pet feel comfortable, probably a treat or two to encourage them to sit for the shoot. Nothing too rushed, a little toy to perk them up. Whatever it takes, maybe just a cuddle is all that will be needed. Some pets are just naturally shy, still these are what make memories.. This is Mozart, he was waiting on Death Row at Renbury Farm Animal Shelter, just one day before this horrid event was to take place I decided to save him and give him the love he deserved.

Even family can be a part of the portrait making it even more special.
